Move to a new phone
Order of operations matters. Phrase and backup recovery key are different.
What you need
| Item | Restores |
|---|---|
| Buzzio ID + 12-word phrase | Identity and messaging keys |
| Backup recovery key (if you enabled encrypted backup) | Private chat history blob |
Install only from buzzio.dev / official stores. See Download and requirements.
Steps
- On the old phone (if still available): confirm you have the phrase written down; unlock or note your backup recovery key if you use cloud / export backup.
- Install Buzzio on the new phone.
- Choose restore / sign in (not “create new account”).
- Enter Buzzio ID + 12-word phrase.
- If chats are empty: unlock an encrypted backup with the backup recovery key (not the phrase alone).
- Allow notifications if you want wakes; sign out or wipe the old phone when you are sure the new one works.
Common outcomes
| Result | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Logged in, chats empty | Keys restored; history was never backed up or backup not unlocked |
| Cannot unlock backup | Wrong backup recovery key, or Premium backup expired / removed after grace |
| Restore fails | Wrong Buzzio ID digits or wrong word order/spelling |
| “Forgot phrase” | There is no reset — see Delete your account only if abandoning the identity |
Multi-account
If you use multiple accounts in the vault, restore each identity carefully. Switching accounts does not merge key custody. See Account and backup.
